Multichannel Fulfilment in the UK: One Stock Pool for Every Channel
Run Shopify, Amazon, TikTok Shop, eBay and wholesale from one stock pool. Stock sync, dispatch rules, Amazon MCF trade-offs and what to ask a UK 3PL.

Multichannel fulfilment means shipping orders from every sales channel out of one stock pool: your Shopify store, Amazon (seller-fulfilled or FBA), TikTok Shop, eBay and wholesale accounts. UK brands usually run it in one of three ways. A 3PL connects to each channel, Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfilment (MCF) ships non-Amazon orders from FBA stock, or a brand uses a mix of the two.
Each set-up has to do three jobs well: keep stock counts in sync, meet each channel's dispatch rules, and pack each order the way that channel expects. This guide covers all three, then where MCF fits and what to ask a 3PL.
The pain points
We sold our last unit on Shopify and TikTok Shop in the same minute, and had to cancel one.
Every marketplace measures late dispatch its own way, and our metrics slip on whichever one we forget.
A retailer sent a wholesale delivery back because the carton labels were wrong.
Half our stock is in FBA and half in our unit, and one side always runs out first.
Each new channel means another spreadsheet and another login.
Keep one stock count
Overselling happens when two channels read the same stock figure before either order is deducted. The fix is one system that holds the count and pushes it to every channel.
One SKU per product across all channels, mapped to one barcode. Our guide to GS1 barcodes explains which retailers and marketplaces need them.
Sync speed. Ask how often stock levels update on each channel. Fast-selling lines need near real-time updates.
Buffer stock. Hold back a few units per channel on fast lines so a sync delay does not turn into a cancellation.
Reservations. Ring-fence wholesale and promotion stock so a viral TikTok post cannot sell it.
Know each channel's dispatch rules
Each channel sets its own dispatch clock and measures you against it.
Amazon, seller-fulfilled: you set a handling time and Amazon tracks late dispatch against it. Prime orders have stricter cut-off and weekend rules, covered in our guide to Seller Fulfilled Prime in the UK.
eBay: eBay recommends a dispatch time of no more than one working day. With one-day handling, a Monday payment must be dispatched and scanned by Tuesday at 11:59pm. Sellers set their working days and a same-day cut-off in eBay's postage settings, and eBay recommends a cut-off no earlier than 2pm.
TikTok Shop: runs its own dispatch window and late dispatch measure. Our guide to TikTok Shop fulfilment in the UK covers the current rules.
Shopify: the promise is yours, so set it to what your warehouse hits on its worst normal day.
Wholesale: retailers set delivery slots, carton labels and paperwork in their supplier manuals, and a missed slot can mean a rejected delivery.
Pack, label and route by channel
Write a rule for each channel and give it to whoever packs. Shopify orders may get branded boxes and inserts. Marketplace orders follow that marketplace's packaging and label rules. Wholesale cartons follow the retailer's labelling spec.
Routing rules decide which stock ships which order. A common pattern keeps fast Amazon lines in FBA, ships everything else from a 3PL, and sends express orders through a faster carrier. Write the rules down so they can be checked each month.
Amazon Multi-Channel Fulfilment: where it fits
Amazon MCF ships orders from your other channels out of the stock you already hold in FBA. Amazon's UK page in 2026 names Shopify and eBay among the channels it serves, through more than 100 integrations. One fee covers pick, pack and delivery. Expedited delivery takes one calendar day from dispatch and standard takes two to three.
Amazon launched free unbranded packaging for UK MCF orders in October 2022 and extended it to clothing and footwear in November 2022. It applies to eligible items within size and weight limits, and the delivery label still shows Amazon Logistics.
The trade-offs:
MCF stock carries FBA storage fees, peak storage rates and aged inventory surcharges.
Year-end inbound slots are limited, so restocking FBA before Christmas takes planning.
A stock-out in FBA hits every channel MCF serves at once.
You work within the packaging and insert options MCF offers, so check them against your brand standards.
Amazon's UK MCF page does not mention TikTok Shop. Check each marketplace's rules on carriers and packaging before you route its orders through MCF.
How a 3PL runs multichannel
A 3PL with channel integrations pulls orders from each channel into its warehouse system, ships them under each channel's rules, and pushes tracking and stock levels back. One stock count sits in its system. Many also send stock into FBA, so your bulk stays in one place and Amazon holds a few weeks of cover. Our guide to Shopify 3PL integration shows how the store connection works.
Questions to ask:
Which channels do you connect to directly, and which need a connector app?
How often do stock levels sync to each channel?
What are your cut-offs for each channel, and do you work weekends?
Can you hold different packaging and insert rules per channel?
Do you handle wholesale orders, retailer labels and booked deliveries?
Can you prepare and ship FBA replenishment from the same stock?
Our recommendation: one stock count, written rules
List every channel, its dispatch rule and its packaging rule on one page.
Clean up SKUs so each product has one code across all channels.
Choose where the master stock count lives: a 3PL's system, inventory software or MCF.
Set buffers on fast lines and ring-fence wholesale stock.
Write routing rules for FBA, the 3PL and express orders.
Review oversells, late dispatches and channel metrics every month, and adjust the buffers.
Our guide to choosing a 3PL covers the wider selection process.
What waiting costs
Peak trading tests every sync and every cut-off at once. Amazon's FBA peak fulfilment fee runs from 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027, and late dispatches on eBay can affect your late delivery rate.
Take an invented example. A brand oversells 30 orders a week across Shopify and TikTok Shop during November. Each cancellation costs a refund, a support reply and a likely lost customer. At £25 average order value, that is £750 of sales a week, before any marketplace penalty. Fixing the stock count before the next sales peak protects those orders.
People Also Ask
What is multichannel fulfilment?
It means fulfilling orders from several sales channels out of one shared stock pool. The set-up keeps stock counts in sync, meets each channel's dispatch rules and packs each order to that channel's standards.
Can Amazon MCF fulfil Shopify and eBay orders?
Yes. Amazon's UK MCF page names Shopify and eBay among the off-Amazon channels it serves. Check each marketplace's own rules on carriers and packaging before you rely on it.
How do I stop overselling across channels?
Hold one master stock count, sync it to every channel quickly, and keep a small buffer on fast-selling lines. Ring-fence stock reserved for wholesale or promotions.
